SELF-PORTRAITS OF PEN AND SWORDBAROQUE PLAYWRITERS IN THE FIRST PERSON
SYNOPSIS
Baroque women writers faced the challenge of using words to highlight a situation that was undoubtedly unjust. Faced with the silence and seclusion to which the dominant morality of the time condemned them, they wanted to raise their voices, making themselves visible in society and, through words, breaking out of the private sphere to also reach the public sphere.
Their pen, as a weapon, will be the vehicle for expressing their opinions against the customary topics, and the dramatic action becomes a thesis to demonstrate that women are firm, that they can defend their grievances alone and therefore should not be considered weak or changeable. Through their works, they took the floor to deny the moral weakness of women, to elevate them in relation to men, to give them the freedom to decide for themselves and, above all, to conceive them as rational and not passionate beings. Through their works, they will intervene in the male discourse on women, assuming it, answering it or reinterpreting it.
